Living in Glenway.
Glenway, where my family and I live, is one Newmarket most sought after family neighbourhoods, featuring approximately 1,500 low density, executive and luxury homes on 50 to 65 foot lots, strategically built around Glenway Golf Course, Joe Persechini Park and the Ray Twinney Sports Complex. The subdivision is bound by Davis Drive/Hwy #9 and Upper Canada Mall on the north and Bathurst St on the West, Yonge St. and it's Go Buses and Town Buses on the East, and contemporary Summerhill Subdivison on the south.
Recreation, life-style and convenience to everywhere else is why my wife and I chose Glenway to start and raise a family 25 years ago. No other Newmarket community offers as much green space and so few homes per acre. Many of these homes back on golf course, parks or greenspace and/or have 150 ft plus deep lots with mature trees and a feel of nature abounds. My family and I have had the opportunity to play and/or participate in organized baseball, hockey, flag football, soccer and competitive swimming and more, all in our immediate neighbouthood and most within 5 minutes or less, walking time from home. It's a great neighbourhood to also just take the kids and dog for a walk or jog or to enjoy a play center time out in the park.
Homes sizes range from 1,500 to 4,500 square feet, many with walkout basements. While most of builders in the site (Great Gulf Homes, Tribute, Geranium, Regal Crest, Palbac, Hume Construction, Canada Homes & Headgate Homes) chose to go with 2 storey designs, Glenway Builders (the very first builder pioneer in the site, after which the subdivision and golf course were named after) also offered backsplits, sidesplits and some rare bungalows.
In 2010 Glenway sales prices ranged from the high $300,000's for a small percentage of the smaller homes extending to the low $700,000's for the larger fully updated and ungraded larger models on parks and/or golf course. In total, 61 homes sold in Glenway in 2010 with an average sale price of $523,000. (See Glenway Sales) If you would like to see a full broker copy of these of any other Glenway Sales, please just click here and fill out the required information. From the beginning of the year to the end of 2010, the price of detached homes in Newmarket had increased by approx 8.9%.
The community elementary schools are Crossland Public and St Nicholas and the High School is Sir William Mulock SS. All of these schools have been rated well by provincial standards and in some of my past sales have been a dominate reason parents chose Glenway over the other executive and/or luxury subdivisions in Newmarket. Many of the students in the subdivision may alternatively attend near by private schools, such as Pickering College, St Andrews and Country Day & Holy Trinity.
